Gulf South Allied Funders Meet a Challenge
and Set a New One
 

Our efforts to help provide adequate resources for equitable recovery efforts received a substantial boost. In our last e-news, we announced a $100,000 challenge grant that came as a remarkable outcome of success from our spring Donor Education trip to the Gulf Coast. To meet the challenge $100,000 in new money (donations to meet the match are restricted to gifts from new donors or gifts in addition to previously pledged money) had to be raised before mid-June.  It is with pleasure we report that our partners, the Gulf South Allied Funders (GSAF), met the challenge and raised $100,000 in new support of our Hurricane Katrina Recovery Fund.

As a result of GSAF meeting the first challenge with speed through skillful organizing, our anonymous donor pledged an additional $100,000 match.  In turn, another anonymous donor added $50,000 to the match bringing the second challenge to $150,000.  The Tides Foundation committed $25,000 as the inaugural gift toward the second challenge.

The monies raised from these challenges will be distributed through 21CF’s Hurricane Katrina Recovery Fund this summer, a time when many grassroots organizations struggle to meet their financial obligations.  Almost two years after the disaster there is still tremendous hardship for many poor and working class people.  We believe with local vigilance and help from their neighbors across the country, the Gulf Coast shall rebuild smarter and stronger than ever.  Your support of the Hurricane Katrina Recovery Fund during this period will double the impact of your gift.  Please donate now (please put 2nd challenge in the note field).
